This week we’ll continue moving through Unit 3, but students will also have a chance to retake any 3rd quarter quizzes and/or make up any missed 3rd quarter assignments. It’s time for our Weather and Climate Unit Test! This week we’ll review what we’ve learned over the past couple months and students will take the Unit Test on Friday, January 31st.

Studying the quiz review sheets and Water Cycle diagram from this unit will be very helpful in preparing for the test. Students will receive additional copies of those this week and blank versions are also available below. Please message Ms. Wukela at kelli.wukela@richlandone.org if you have any questions.

IMPORTANT DATES: Homework worksheets are due Wednesday, January 29th and our Unit Test is Friday, January 31st.

Week of January 20th

UPDATE 1/21 AT 9:02PM – The Celebrate Freedom Foundation WILL NOT be visiting Sanders tomorrow. With the weather being unexpectedly cold, they will come another time.

Bring your warmest coat this Wednesday, January 22nd, because we will have the Celebrate Freedom Foundation on campus in the theater parking lot.

Students will join the foundation outside for a 10-15 minute presentation and viewing focusing on an aerospace/automotive/manufacturing program that expands upon the knowledge of STEM and connects with current and emerging global career opportunities.  

Benchmark Exam Review

To allow for more time to revisit some of the topics we need for the next Benchmark Exam in March, our Weather and Climate Unit Test has been pushed back to next Thursday, January 30th.

This week we’ll practice more with charts, graphs, and diagrams, and cover weather tools and types of clouds. There will be a 10-question quiz on Thursday, January 23rd. Students will bring home a review sheet Wednesday to study.

Week of December 9th

This week is a little different since we’ll be focusing on review for our Benchmark Exam (taking place this Friday, December 13th) and class science projects (due January 15th).

Students also have the option of doing individual science projects! If they choose to submit a project they will be exempt from the Unit 2 exam we’ll have in January. More info to come!

They will get the chance to take the quiz again Monday. I sent home printouts of the Electricity Presenation with those students that asked for one. This week is all about ELECTRICITY! Everything from generators to circuits – we’ll be learning about how the movement of electrons makes things work.

IMPORTANT DATES: Workbook pages 232-241 will be due Wednesday, October 16th. Our quiz on Electricity will be Thursday, October 17th. First Quarter Projects are due Monday, October 21st.

If you have misplaced the workbook assigned to you, be sure to keep track of the printed workbook handout you receive. The electricity section is fairly long so it will only be possible to make one copy per student.

This week we’re finishing up our section on Thermal Energy and learning about simple machines. Activities will include lesson presentations, workbook assignment, hands-on activity, and QUIZ ON THURSDAY.

This week we’re reviewing the forms of energy we’ve covered so far and learning more about thermal energy. Activities will include a new lesson presentation, a mini-lab, a workbook assignment, review game, and quiz on Friday.

IMPORTANT DUE DATE: Workbook pages 199-204 due Friday, October 4th, the same day as our Thermal Energy Quiz. (Skip the section labeled Math Skills in the margin of page 202.)

Tuesday, September 24th

1st and 3rd Period, skip down to Step 1.

First we’ll do our quiz (6th and 7th Period), then you need to complete the following steps:

  1. Write down our “I can” statement in your science journal.
  2. If you haven’t done so, finish up your science journal requirements (listed below) and workbook pages 180-186.
  3. Place your science journal and workbook open to page 180 on your desk. Ms. Wukela will come around to check your work so you can receive your grades for those.
  4. Check out our new website! Click around to see where things are and how to find them. If you’d like to comment on our BLOG POST in Classroom News, feel free to post there.
  5. If you haven’t been able to log into ConnectEd, do that now. You received an email with the subject “Online Classroom Resources” but the instructions are also available below.
